It’s December 21st, or the shortest day of the year here in the Northern Hemisphere. That means it’s also Short Girl Appreciation Day.
Now, I personally believe that every day should be short girl appreciation day. But, rather like Left Handers’ Day (August 13th), I’ll happily take Short Girl Appreciation Day as a small step towards trying to make up for the many, many, many ways that we petites are under-appreciated on the other 364 days of the year.
Here are just a few of the gems on Twitter today:
It’s #ShortGirlAppreciationDay, so here are the best things about being short.
1. I can wear whatever size heel I want
2. Blankets are never too short
3. I’m always in the front of all group pictures
4. Leg room on airplanes is never an issue— beth (@beth_1477) December 21, 2017
Wait, it’s #ShortGirlAppreciationDay ??? I get my own DAY?
Fuck that noise, I deserve to be appreciated all year. I’m over here being tiny, taking up less oxygen and giving you all extra room on planes. YOU’RE WELCOME.

I’m thrilled that there is such a thing as #ShortGirlAppreciationDay because I’m 5’1” and often feel unappreciated. However, it looks like we got short-changed on the choice of date 😀😀😀. pic.twitter.com/016gtfTE26

THIS SHOULD NOT ONLY BE FOR A DAY OR A SIMPLE HASHTAG THAT STOPS TRENDING EVENTUALLY, THIS SHOULD BE FOR LIFE
RESPECT US
WE ARE JUST AS VALUABLE AND BEAUTIFUL AS TALL GIRLS
AND SHOULD BE TAKEN JUST AS SERIOUSLY AS THEM
