The classic fit and flare dress is a great silhouette for petite pears like me. While many professional women are tempted to default to sheath dresses, they can be unflattering on those of us with shorter stature and larger hips. In contrast, the a-line of a fit-and-flare skims flatteringly over the hips, elongates the legs, and emphasizes a smaller waist.
The key is making sure that the waist hits in the right spot, which is where petite sizes come in.
Calvin Klein Petite makes some of my favourite petite-proportioned dresses. I bought this dress last spring on a recent shopping trip to NYC and it quickly became my favourite spring/summer/fall work outfit when I wanted to rock business meetings.
What’s nice about this dress is that it’s effortlessly business-appropriate, comfortable, and chic without being overdone.
Here, I’ve paired with classic pumps and simple jewellery. And my phone, of course.
Dress: Calvin Klein Petite, size 4P, purchased at Macy’s for $98.
